Happy New Year!

Last year, I resolved to make 2010 my bitch. As a rule, I don’t make New Year’s resolutions. If something’s worth doing, it’s worth doing right away without waiting for an artificial day on a calendar. As near as I can tell, there’s no real physical or cosmological or whatever reason for January 1st. It’s just a day, and the calendar happens to start over. But last year, I was determined to make it count, at least in part because I turned 40 and wanted something to show for it. Besides a family and a Ph.D., I mean. In my case, of course, 2010 was the year I sold my first novel.

This year I plan to build on that success by continuing to pursue my writing and sell the sequels to Rocking the Boat. Of course, I have to write them first, and right now, I’m blogging. But I also have the nerve to say this is a warm-up exercise, and it beats wasting time on Facebook. I also plan to do what I can to make my relationship with my son the best it can be, although I strive for that every day, as well as being a better husband. Just one of these days, however, I’d like to succeed.

So it’s a new year. What’re you going to do to make 2011 your bitch?

  1. Alright, I’m in. I’m going to update the blog at least three times a week, finish my spec pilot, and start on something new. And if I’m scared, or worried I’ll be hurt, I’m going to go for it even harder. I’m not letting Fear make me its bitch anymore.

That’s the spirit! Finish that spec and see if you can’t find a home for it while you’re working on something new.
